The acting was very old-fashioned, but everything else about the Battleship Potemkin was incredibly modern and timeless. Hearing The Pet Shop Boys’ score with the very modern editing and cinematography brought this 82 year old movie into, if not the 21st Century, at least the 1980s. I would have rather heard what Moby would have done with it. Still…very cool.
By the way I’m 49 and still enjoy PSB’s music and I learned as a kid to appreciate classical music and opera sometimes via electronic or rock reworkings of the classics; Pictures of an Exhibition by Emerson Lake and Palmer or April by Deep Purple or the works of Walter/Wendy Carlos and Isao Tomita and maybe some Eric Carmer songs with Rachmaninoff melodies or Donna Summer with Chopin? That’s actually Barry Manillow.
I saw this film with the original first orchestral soundtrack and then switch off the sound while playing it again but with the new Pet Shop Boys score from the i-pod and blew up my mind. It was like watching two different movies. Both very effective. Not every one likes PSB and is a good thing there are several versions with different soundtracks so anyone can choose the one they like most and don’t get bother with the new approach. I agree with ideno 1985. appeal to new generations.
I´ve seen it in Hamburg Germany and im very happy i found it! The scene with the baby- carriage is for me the key to remember at this great “movie- concert” The first moment i´ve see the Boys! Very, very great!
Great comment; well-said. The film works great with the PSB music as a total. “After All” (this song) is a climax, most of the music is instrumental. I also don’t understand the fuzz about title cards. The text is pasted on images that appear in the movie *before* this scene (and the music) stars. Those images aren’t relevant for this YouTube clip at all.
I enjoy this. I think the Pet Shop Boys did a good job bringing this movie back for a younger generation with the new soundtrack. It really plays up the drama and shows just how powerful a piece of propaganda The Battleship Potemkin was.

Excelente!
Personally I think this is the least fitting score. It is not very hard hitting, in stark contrast to the film, sometimes it almost makes me laugh.
moby….?! are you serious?
This is a work of pure genius by Neil and Chris. It is timeless.
kurwa napewno był taka muzyka -.-

Most descriptions say that the woman in the pince nez is shot through her glasses, but to me it looks as if the Cossack is backhanding her.
What do you think?

this is a brilliant song!
well its not to my liking, the theme doesn’t sit well with the rest of the score in my opinion and thank goodness someone included the lions!
Brilliant! This soundtrack, with DRESDEN SINFONIKER and PET SHOP BOYS, IS A MASTERPIECE! VERY MODERN! contemporary!

Felicitaciones a Pet Shop Boys por el premio especial que recibirán el 18 de febrero en los Brit Awards del 2009.
This soundtrack… really just destroys this masterpiece.
TO see the rest of the film, I found a link to watch it online:

i like the idea of a new soundtrack, but honestly i was expecting better, the guys voice is irritating
Ok let’s just agree to disagree then. Otherwise this will go nowhere.
I’ll assume your credentials as a commentator are at least equal to mine and afford you the respect of a professional peer.
Even so, we are at an impasse. I understand your point and you, I assume understand mine. I doubt either of us is going to change our view.
So why don’t we agree to disagree and leave this thread where it is?
